  Templates

The outlook Template Editor can be used to create a standardised template for your SMS messages.

As an example, we regularly get enquiries from customers about their remaining SMS balance. Our time saving approach has been to design a template that presents a name and number field for the rapid entry of data.

To despatch a 'remaining balance SMS' all we have to do is complete two fields. A considerable timesaver!

Creating a template

To use the Template Editor, go to the outlook menu and select Template Editor. This will open the 'Template Editor' window.

This is a basic editor which allows you to create an SMS template. You can also use it to edit existing SMS templates.

To create a template, simply type your SMS message and use any of the token buttons (i.e. Text, Number, Currency etc.) as field identifiers.

As an example, the SMS template:

Hi <<Name>>, thank you for your enquiry. Your remaining SMS credit balance is <<Balance>>. Regards the Power of Messaging team

is created using the steps below:

. Step 1 - Type in the word 'Dear' and click the menu button labeled Text. A
pop-up window will open asking you to define your 'Token'.

. Step 2 - For this field name use the title 'Name' and select the option to enforce
the title case. This forces a capital letter to be used whenever a 'Name' is
inserted. To test this step, check the preview area at the bottom of the screen.
Clicking 'OK' will return you to the Template Editor.

. Step 3 - A 'Token' placeholder titled <<Name>> should now be shown in blue
letters. Double clicking on the placeholder will return you to edit mode and
allow you to change the properties of the placeholder.

. Step 4 - Continue with your template by typing 'thank you for your enquiry.
Your remaining SMS credit balance is'. Using your mouse, click the menu button
labeled Number. A popup window will open asking you to define the 'Number
Field'.

. Step 5 - As a field name, use the term 'Balance' and enter 0 as your minimum
balance. Again, use the preview area at the bottom of your screen to test your
entry.

. Step 6 - A 'Token' placeholder titled <<Balance>> will be shown in blue letters.
Again, you can double-click on this entry to change the properties.

. Step 7 - Complete the rest of the template by typing ' Regards the
MobiMarketing team'. Save your template by clicking on the Save button on
the menu bar. The template is now ready for use.

Using your template

Using a template to send an SMS is straightforward. Click on the New outlook button to open the 'New outlook Message' window. Next click on the Use Template... button to load your template.

A template generator window will open displaying your standardised fields. By completing these fields and clicking OK a standard SMS is instantly generated and you are returned to the Message window. You can either continue to edit your final text or choose to select your SMS recipients. Clicking Send will despatch your SMS message.

Hint: Click the down arrow on the Use Template... button to recall a previously used template. A List Box entry can be edited. This allows you to overwrite or delete any of your standardised entries within the template. If you have multiple template fields, the TAB key will allow you to step through each of the fields.
