SMS Compression allows you to access our SMS dictionary to
abbreviate your SMS message.
For example, on the screen below we have typed the SMS message
| |
Hi Sally, please phone me if
you can meet for lunch at one today. Thanks Robert. |
By clicking the Compress button
on the menu bar, a series of options will be presented on the screen. Select
your preferred option either by using the slider bar or clicking the preset
options.
The effect that the compression has on your text can be seen in the message
preview area at the botton of the screen.
For example, choosing Med has the following
effect:

This compression is achieved by removing all the extraneous
spaces and replacing common words with those found in the SMS abbreviation
dictionary.
To confirm your selection and finalise the compression of your SMS message,
click OK and you will return to the 'New
outlook Message' window.
Creating your own SMS
dictionary
If you wish, you can create your own SMS dictionary by editing the outlook
dictionary file. This is located in the outlook installation directory
on your hard disk.
The file is called dict.txt and is typically
found in: C:\Program Files\outlook
Editing dict.txt is straightforward. If you
are adding words, make sure each word is on a new line. Type in the
unabbreviated word e.g. September, then press space or tab and type in the
abbreviated word, i.e. Sept.
After you have made your changes, save the file to your hard disk in the same
location. Be sure to save the file in txt format
and to name the file dict.txt.
